WESTDENE VILLAGE FAIR SUN 15th SEPT 2019 12-4pm
The Village Fair took place on Westdene Green Sunday 15th September. The event which started at midday attracted well over 400 people of every age and was a great afternoon for the local community. We had a lot of great feedback on the day from happy people who remarked it was the best one yet!
The circus took centre stage this year with many learning new circus skills such as stilts, juggling, hoop, diablo and even poi.
The tea and cakes stall did a roaring trade with sweet things donated by the local community. Big thanks to all those who donated their baking delights this year. Our bar team was kept busy throughout the afternoon and eventually ran out of booze as demand for cool drinks out ran supply!
The Westdene Butchers was there from early in the morning cooking up a storm with hog roast rolls for sale with coleslaw. Yum! Calcutta Kiss and Macks Ices completed the hot food line up and all made a generous donation from their takings.
James from the Guildford Model Engineering Society (GMES) and Glen, Luke and Harry from GHSMLE were kept busy all day providing real train rides for the children from Hove Park Railway! Thanks to them and Jim Mander for organising such a great attraction.
Brighton Outdoor Fitness put the kids through their paces in the assault course and many of the stall holders incorporated great activities for children including the ‘unlucky dip’ at the stall run by our new local councillors!
The Nature Area organised by Mike Letton was very popular with lots of stalls and the Booth Museum quiz which wasn’t as easy as it looked!
Robin and his team of astronomers were busy enlisting more members to his Astronomy at the Barn Club and brought some huge telescopes for people to look at! The Club meetings are on the third Wednesday of each month and are open to all.
Even the hounds had fun thanks to Brighton Flyball where they were put through their paces.
Thanks to all the stallholders who provided a really interesting browsing experience. From having an instant portrait made to delicious local honey, brick-a-brac stalls and impressive face painting, there was plenty to see and do.
The day wouldn’t be complete without the Patcham Silver Band who performed with a full band ‘because they enjoy the fair so much!’ we were told!
The Wellbeing area saw a lot of activity with Kim and Angelo from Sussex Injury Clinics giving non-stop massages plus health talks from Kim and Anne from Coast Chiropractic. There was even a yoga demo from Christina introducing her new class at The Barn.
Thanks to the East Sussex Fire Service who came to the fair allowing a host of children to climb onboard a real fire engine. Fire also provided the finale with a daring performance from Nick our circus entertainer which even though it wasn’t dark created a great end to the day!
Special thanks go out to all the volunteers who helped us set up, recycle waste, pack away and clean the Barn. Thanks all for coming!
In order for this event to happen, Friends of Westdene Green needs your help – whether it be to join the event committee – give us more ideas and suggestions – commit to setting up or clearing away – help on the day with stalls and the information point. Every little contribution makes a difference.
