CHRISTMAS AT THE BARN DEC 2016
WESTDENE FESTIVE BAKE OFF - ROUND UP
Round up by organiser, Georgi Daluiso-King
Westdene's Festive Bakeoff was a massive success with fantastic community participation. Thank you so much to those who embraced the event with baking up some amazing delights, but also to those that supported by purchasing those tasty wonders either in their fullness as I did, buying the winning chocolate Robin in the 9-15 year age category, or by buying the slices of bakes to enjoy in the barn with others with a brew or mulled wine or at home with friends and family.
Our judges were extremely professional and each bake got a thorough going over before deciding the winner in each catagory! Thank you to Valerie, Sharon and Nick.
We were able to offer some fabulous prizes thanks to our generous sponsors: local company, Baked Bliss; Highsports and Odeon Cinemas.
The Bake Off alone raised £125.77 for the renovation of The Barn. Thank you to you all, it was so much fun... So much so that we wish to hold a similar event next year, so get your rolling pins and weighing scales ready for that one! Any feedback or suggestions on how you think the Bake off went this year and how you would like the Bake Off to be next year would be extremely appreciated. People have already requested a separate loaf baking category for example.
The winners and runners up of each age category are as follows:
4-9 years
1st - Tarik with his choccy cake with frosty green icing - who won two vouchers worth £30 in total for the Withdean Climbing Wall from Highsports
2nd - Albert with his star wars sugar biscuits
9-15 years
1st - Phoebe with her Chocolate Robin - who won a £25 voucher for use at Odeon Cinemas
2nd - Abby with her Christmas Chocolate Cookies
16+ years
1st - Maud with her Tiramisu layer cake - who won a delicious Christmas cake baked by the talented Sharon from Baked Bliss.... who's occupation is to bake!
2nd - Amanda with her Kentucky Derby Chocolate and Pecan Pie
3rd - Richard with his Westdene Sourdough loaf
All the winners and runner ups received a 'Westdene bake off spoon' that hopefully they will use over the next year to work up their skills for the next festive bake off at Christmas at the Barn 2017!
