How did you get started in the garden design business? A keen eye for design and a love of gardening led to an unusual career change for media director Hilary Pavitt. Hilary was working for advertising giants Saatchi when she moved to Westdene nine years ago and was able to indulge her long-time love of gardening. In fact, she enjoyed it so much she took a gardening course and then went on to study for the RHS horticultural diploma at Plumpton College and further certification. That was 5 years ago and now, Hilary, who runs Friends of Westdene Green’s monthly gardening club, has her own thriving business – Pavitt Garden Designs. What do you hope to achieve for your customers? “I always had a good eye and I have a passion for bringing together good design and the practicalities of gardening. My studies and experience have given me knowledge about plants and I love getting out there and helping people create something beautiful.” What got you involved with Friends of Westdene Green? “I got involved with Friends of Westdene Green because this is a community of gardeners and I want to help them get the best out of their hobby.” Barn Buddies is a unique scheme which recognises the regular financial support local businesses give to The Barn and promotes their goods and services to the Westdene community in return.
