Big Bands and Community Fun at Westdene Green
Sunday September 11th, noon-5pm
Join in the community fun on Westdene Green while listening to two of the finest Big Bands around!
And why not bring your pooch along to the first Westdene Dog Show? The afternoon, organised by Friends of Westdene Green, will include activities for all ages, hot food from local favourites Westdene Butchers and Calcutta Kiss, tea and cakes and a well-stocked bar run by Brighton community pub The Bevy and of course the ice cream van from Mack's Ices! There’s no charge to get in, but you can show your appreciation by contributing to the Westdene defibrillator fund which aims to install one of these life-saving machines near the Barn. And of course, donations to Friends of Westdene Green to help us cover costs are always welcome! If you’d like to help out, join us as a volunteer to help set up the event by contacting [email protected] Things kick off at noon with the first ever Westdene Dog Show run by a volunteer team and supported by New Priory Vets and local dog expert Luiza Destruiti. From 1pm Patcham’s Les Paul Big Band, a classic Swing Band, open the musical feast with classics from the Big Band repertoire. After their set, there’ll be some hula-hoop fun and a chance to visit information stands from Friends of Westdene Green, TWEACK (the volunteers who have been busy tree-planting and improving the Green and other natural areas around Westdene) and the local Girl Guides. Popular Barn Yoga teacher Megan will be running a couple of free taster sessions for Chair Yoga. This low-impact approach to the wonderful discipline of Yoga promises to be fun! It’s accessible to anyone, no matter what age or physical ability. Then it’s the turn of the Sussex Jazz Orchestra playing a mix of original jazz and contemporary arrangements of classic melodies. Local hero “DJ Funky Guy” Garrett finishes off the afternoon with a set of upbeat choons! Also featuring:
